Google Doc’s Rock!

Just when you think you have seen it all, Google Documents comes along with the ability to work collaboratively in the internet cloud. Can we go paperless or at least use less paper?

During this session we took a look at Google Documents, Google Sites, Groups and Calendar. It is hard to believe that you can have resources like these for free.  Out of the four programs listed (Google Documents/Sites/Groups/Calendar) which do think can have the biggest impact to your classroom and why?

  1. At this point, I think Google Docs can have the biggest impact on my teaching. Since I haven’t used this resource before, I will most likely start by sharing docs with other teachers but look forward to experimenting with student/teacher collaboration on activities.

  2. I was unable to partipate in the 11/12 session, but I watched the recording. I believe that as a library media specialist, Google Sites would have the largest impact on my population. Our district website doesn’t give me the opportunity to share photos and news of events and happenings in our library. I have requested a link on my library page that will take users to a separate page that I have created. I hope to use Google Sites to create my new page.

  3. After the 11/12 session, I feel that the GoogleDocs and the Calendar could have the biggest impact on my classroom. The idea of having every student able to access documents (homework assignments, etc.) as long as they have an account is a tremendous help to a teacher. It is the beginning of paperless classes. Grading the assignments would be as easy as getting online instead of lugging home thousands of papers every school year. The Calendar might be useful to keep the students and parents aware of important dates and upcoming events. I also see it as a great personal tool since I am always in need of proper organizational techniques. What will Google come up with next?

  4. After the Nov. 12 session, several areas have drawn my interest. Google Docs is a great idea. However, I’m not sure how to apply its’ use in physical education classes. In my health classes, it could be used easily in research reports. The Google Calendar drew my interest the most in this session. I The idea of being able to have one universal calendar that can send text messages to me is great.

  5. I think all four areas can have an impact. I’ll probably be most comfortable with google docs at first, and plan on using it a lot next semester when I’m teaching an English elective called “The computer as a writing tool.” I will probably also use. I want the whole class to get a gmail and submit assignments via that. I hope to also use the calandar and groups applications, but these classes go soooo fast with sooooo much information I feel like I go a lot of introductions and ideas, but haven’t really learned any new schools. It’s like everyone else is zooming along on there ten-speed and I’m trying desparately to keep up on my tricycle, but these sessions are full of great info.

  6. I think Google Docs is a really great idea. However, I don’t think I can use it in my elementary art classroom. It would be a great way to go paperless, which would benefit everyone!

  7. We use Google Docs to share information on the technology committee. It is an easy and simple way to share information. We can all view the document at the same time AND make revisions. My children love Gmail! They have used many different providers and find Gmail to be the best choice. Although I have a personal account, I do not use it at school. Our school mail is outlook. It is difficult to monitor several accounts at school.
